Topic Description:
Practical Design is more than a buzz word, and it's not just for highway projects. This presentation will discuss general principles, results, and examples of how practical design has been implemented for transportation infrastructure projects at the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA). Several case studies will be discussed at length, with an emphasis on the Canton Viaduct bridge replacement project and how practical design will deliver systemwide benefits to MDTA's two highest volume thruways.

Speaker Bio:
Will is the Maryland Transportation Authority’s Director of Project Development, providing leadership for MDTA's system preservation program and several mega-projects, including the Nice Bridge and Canton Viaduct replacement projects and the ETL Northbound Transition project. Prior to joining MDTA, Will served the State in SHA’s Office of Structures. He is a graduate of the National Transportation Leadership Institute and is a licensed professional engineer. He earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering and M.S. in Management from the University of Maryland.
